Césaire attended the Lycée Schoelcher in Fort-de-France.  In 1931 he went  to Paris to  further his education.  He attended  Lycée Louis-le-Grand, the Ecole Normale Supérieure,  and the Sorbonne. At the Sorbonne University, he  studied Latin, Greek  and French  literature

Césaire was a prominent advocate of  "Négritude".  As a student in Paris, he  helped found the publication Etudiant noir.  Also in Paris he had the opportunity to meet Caribbean and African students, among the Léopold Senghor, a poet. Cesaire's work was influence by world events such as,  the history   of Hispaniola (Haiti/Dominican Republic), world war II, and the emancipation of the third world, to name a few. Today the effects of his work are felt throughout the world.  Cesaire's works have been translated and it is appreciated by a wide audience.  His writing style has been described as:  "Profound, Metaphoric, Surrealism".

              "Salut à la Guineé
               Dalaba Pita Labé Mali Timbo
               Puissantes falaises

              Tinkisso Tinkisso eaux belles
et que le futur déjà y déploie
             toute la possible chevelure
             Guineé oh
te garde ton allure déclinant... "

Cesaire's legacy was, and will always remain
"Symbol of Hope" for generations to come.
